Board Track Racer Yard Art

My husband has been at it again. His latest creation is this full size replica Board Track Racer.
This form of racing was popular in the early 1900's, but went by the wayside during the Great Depression. The high maintenance of the wood planked tracks known as 'the motordrome' proved to be too costly to maintain and they were soon forgotten to the sands of time.
These century old American made motorcycles are getting more difficult to find.  On the rare occasion that one turns up, they fetch top dollar. This was not an obstacle for my husband, but instead a challenge that he gladly accepted.
Over the years, dear hubby has amassed quite a collection of antique parts and likes to incorporate them into his projects whenever he can. His adaptation of this early racing bike uses a mishmash of vintage items.
Case in point - this crank case is made from two Model A brake drums welded together. The frame was made from salvaged pipe that was hand bent to fit the proportions of the bike.
The handlebars were constructed from an old water pipe. The gas tank was from his stockpile of miscellaneous parts from days gone by.
The iron wheels came from an old farm in Canterbury, New Hampshire......they were just waiting to be loved again.
Sheet metal was cut, shaped and hand pounded to form the seat.
She may look like a blast from the past, but she is actually a revived collection of iron that will be appreciated for many more years to come.
